Chris joined the BBC as a cameraman but transferred to the lighting department after a few years.  He became a vision operator for a while and then was promoted to the post of lighting and vision control supervisor (console operator) which he held for a few years.  He became one of the BBC's youngest lighting directors in the late 1980s and soon established a reputation for his work on various music and comedy shows.

He lit almost all of the One Foot in the Grave series and developed a naturalistic style which had not been seen before in sitcom lighting.  This series won him two nominations and an award in the annual RTS craft and design awards.

Chris decided to take the plunge and become freelance in 1999 and he has remained very busy ever since!  He currently lights Never Mind the Buzzcocks and the Friday Night with Jonathan Ross series amongst many other things.
