This programme was one of the most exhausting yet enjoyable shows I have been involved with.  The production took over a stage at Ealing for less than a week plus a second stage for the last day.  Harry Banks achieved miracles in creating sets that echoed those from the original pop videos in a matter of hours or even minutes with, no doubt, a fraction of the budget!  For example, the 'Blu Cantrell' set was shot on whilst the paint was still wet.  Hours before, that part of the stage had been part of the 'Moulin Rouge'.  The actors had to stand on a bit of floor that had just been dried out!

The schedule was such that on most days we set, lit, rehearsed and recorded two or even three songs.  We shot single-camera with a 'B' camera picking up alternative shots that could be used in the edit.  The shooting style was very much 'film' rather than 'tv' and this I think shows in the final cut.

Due to the nature of the recording, I had to rig several trusses with a mix of lights that I could use for different sets that were placed in the same area of the studio.  There was no time to re-rig lights so a great deal of planning and a considerable degree of good luck meant that we were able to light each song very quickly.

The look of the show owes a great deal to the superb camerawork of Jamie Cairney.  He lit about four of the songs - the ones shot on location - and in my view they are the best in the show.
